The Effectiveness of Interpersonal Communication Methods in Hypertension Health Promotion in Jangka District, Bireuen Regency

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common health problems in the community and can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure if not properly managed. Health promotion plays an important role in increasing public awareness and understanding of hypertension prevention and management. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the interpersonal communication (IPC) method in health promotion related to hypertension in Jangka Subdistrict, Bireuen Regency. A quantitative design with a quasi-experimental approach was used, involving an intervention group that received health promotion through the IPC method and a control group that received conventional health promotion. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess changes in participants' knowledge and awareness. The results showed that the application of the IPC method was significantly more effective in improving public understanding and awareness of hypertension compared to conventional methods. These findings suggest that IPC can be an effective and practical strategy for health education efforts in the prevention and management of hypertension at the community level. The implementation of this method is expected to strengthen promotive and preventive programs in public health services.
