Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is increasingly found among adolescents, mainly due to excessive consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. Nutrition education through digital media is considered a potential strategy to improve nutritional literacy and influence healthy behavior. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of video-based nutrition education on changes in adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to sugary drink consumption. The program was conducted among 20 adolescents aged 13–18 years in Batee Tunggai Village, South Aceh Regency, using a quasi-experimental pre–post test design without a control group. The intervention included an interactive session and a 7-minute educational video on the health risks of excessive sugar intake. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results showed an improvement in knowledge scores from an average of 50.5% (pre-test) to 61.25% (post-test). More than 75% of participants expressed intentions to reduce sugar intake and check nutrition labels, while 75% reported reducing their consumption of sugary drinks after the intervention. It can be concluded that video-based nutrition education is effective in improving knowledge and encouraging behavior change regarding sugar consumption among adolescents.
